National Gallery of Canada

A national institution with a collection most of the country will never travel to see. The brief was to make the digital experience worth the visit on its own.

Brand & Strategy, Creative Production, Growth & Performance

  • 3.7X Digital collection engagement
  • 52% More visits booked online
  • 6 Languages served from one system

Make the collection reachable for an audience that cannot come in person

The Challenge

A Collection Behind Glass, Twice

The gallery had digitised a great deal and made almost none of it findable. The site served the building rather than the collection.

Visitors came for opening hours and left. The collection existed online as a database rather than something anyone would browse, exhibition content disappeared when the show closed, and the institution had no picture of what people actually wanted to see.

The Strategy

Why We Went This Direction

We treated the collection as the destination, not the visit.

The architecture was rebuilt so works, exhibitions and stories connect to each other rather than sitting in separate silos. Exhibition content now persists after closing as part of the permanent record, and the whole system serves six languages from one editorial model.
  • Brand Repositioning
  • Conversion-Focused Web Design
  • Paid Acquisition
  • Retention Through Subscription Messaging

Execution

What We Actually Did

  1. Collection Experience

Rebuilt browsing around how people explore art — by theme, period and connection, not accession number.

  2. Exhibition Lifecycle

Show content that becomes part of the permanent record instead of disappearing at closing.

  3. Multilingual System

Six languages from a single editorial model, so a curator writes once.

  4. Visit Conversion

A clear path from browsing the collection to booking a visit, measured end to end.

  • Brand Repositioning
  • Conversion-Focused Web Design
  • Paid Acquisition
  • Retention Through Subscription Messaging

In Their Words

What clients say when we're not in the room.

  • “Koncept rebuilt our entire online presence in under three months, and our online orders have nearly quadrupled since. They think like a partner, not a vendor.”

    Rachel Simmonds

    Founder, Northfield Organics

  • “What stood out was how few people we had to talk to get things done. One team, one point of contact, and the work still felt senior at every step.”

    James Whitfield

Marketing Director, Harrow & Vale Properties

  • “We've worked with agencies twice their size that couldn't move this fast without breaking something. Koncept hasn't dropped a ball yet.”

    Sarah Delgado

    VP Marketing, Vantera Health Clinics

  • “Their strategy work alone justified the engagement. The creative and performance marketing that followed just compounded it.”

    Michael Chen

    CEO, Loopline Technologies

  • “Time zones were never an issue. It genuinely felt like they were down the hall, even with a twelve-hour difference.”

    Olivia Bennett

Head of Brand, Coastal & Co.
